Lasik Eye Surgery

LASIK eye surgery is a revolutionary way to fix vision problems for millions of people around the world. If you have bad vision then you definitely want to consider LASIK. This surgery can benefit near sightedness, far sightedness and astigmatism. It is a very fast eye surgery, incredibly effective and safe.

For many years those with vision problems have had to suffer through eyeglasses and contacts. That may not seem like such a big hassle, but it is when you have to deal with it every day for years. Glasses can form indentations on the nose, hurt the top of your ears, get scratched easily, fog up, get splattered with rain or snow and fly off when it’s windy or toddlers are nearby. I cannot count the number of times my daughter has broken my glasses.

Contacts are slightly better except the problem of dust, lint, eyelashes, wind causing the eye to hurt or contact to go cloudy rise dramatically. They really are a pain. Then if you lose one, one pops out or one rips you are stuck wearing glasses. Eye exams are needed annually and if the prescription changes enough you need new lenses in your glass frames and if the frame has been discontinued you need to buy a new set of glasses! Don’t forget the prescription sunglasses either. Can you see why so many want LASIK eye surgery?

Before the LASIK eye surgery test are done on the eyes such as measurements, mapping of the eye, thickness of the cornea and other tests. During the eye surgery the patient is awake or just slightly sedated. The eyes are numbed and held in place. Then a flap is made in the eye and a laser is used to make small cuts to change the shape of the eye. This will correct the vision problems. Then the flap is put back and the eye begins to heal from the surgery. It is a very fast surgery.

Eye drops are used after surgery to reduce swelling and the chance of an infection. Special goggles are worn the first day. Then every time they go outside for a few weeks special sunglasses must be worn to fully protect the eyes. The most common side effect is halos around lights and dry eyes. This goes away in a few months.

The cost varies wildly from region to region and according to the type of eye surgery, what equipment is used, what laser, etc. I would ask for a list of patients and call them to see what they say.

Studies have shown that patients are extremely happy to have undergone the quick eye surgery. The quality of life and vision has improved and in many cases has improved dramatically.
